Frescobaldi

Marchesi Vittorio Frescobaldi played a crucial part in the global recognition of Tuscany’s stand out wines, Ornellaia being one of them.  It is an elite wine that is synonymous with the best of “Super Tuscan” as well as being on the list of Top 10 most famous and recognized wines around the world.  Vittorio was an architect of modernization in the region, he had a pioneering role in bringing Bordeaux grapes and styles of wine making to Tuscany. This historical family has lost its leading figure of the industry, he was 97 years of age.

The Frescobaldi family is a dynasty that was established in the 1300, some of their benchmark wines date back for more than a century such as Nipozzano and Pomino first released in 1716.

Chianti Rufina is the heartland of this family’s wine making history, and wines here commonly have notes of blue fruit, herbs and licorice.

Vin Santo meaning “Holy wine” is a rare Italian dessert wine that can vary from bone dry to very sweet.  Its name is derived from its many purposes in history, one of them being that it was the wine of choice for the Catholic mass because it was sweet and pleasing.  Its sweetness is what allows it to easily ferment for four years, not an uncommon practice in the making process for this wine
